Introduction In this article, I detail my experience setting up my newer home network and give little walk throughs of how I went about setting my system up. This is not only for others to learn from but for myself in the case where I forget how I got to where I am now so my apologies if some of it doesn’t make sense aha. After setting it all up, I believe my process can be broken down into three main sections:

Introduction So recently I had an incident happen with my home NAS that I thought I was protected against but wasn’t, and this sparked an urge in me to up my home security game and learn more about networking and security. My only other experience with network security is just whatever I researched in my spare time as well as one university unit that I completed for my Computer Science part of my degree.

My Experience So on the 9th of January I logged onto my computer and went to access my folder that holds this website that you are reading from right now so that I could make some changes to it but lo and behold, all my files were zipped up. Freaky! There was also a new file in most of the folders entitled “!!!READ_ME.txt”. Naturally I opened it and it read the following:

Update So I know I haven’t kept my word for the previous year for keeping blog posts up to date although I hope this year I can change that. With the start of every year there is a sense of motivation that flows through everyone so as long as I can keep it going then I’ll be happy and I’ll hopefully be able to accomplish more of my ambitions this year.

So this blog post is just setting the scene as to what is helping me with all my self education at home. It is for no reason to gloat but more like my other post, for me to document my progress as time moves forward. I like the idea of reflecting on my past positions and situations and seeing how much I have developed which is the main reason why I am beginning to blog.
